@wstanek Not every vertical game is 4-way, though. Many arcade SHMUPs are vertical and 8-way. But with either the xboxdrv (item 2D) or switchable Joysticks like the Ultimarc Mag-Stik Plus (I have two of them built into my upright cabinet, see my review here), that wouldn't be an issue.

When you change the Options in RA, the values apply to all games - it's always been like that. Use the 'Create Game Options' menu item after you change the options for the game, then switch the option back so it doesn't affect all games.

@dwmreg you need to change the keyboard region. This setting is found under the raspi-config menu.

@ddallman said in Player 1 START button not working IN GAME - CPS1:

      What could be the deal?

If the start button works everywhere except the cps1 games, i would expect the issue to be in mame2003's cps1 emulation ? However i don't think you'll get support for this emulator, using mame2003-plus or FBNeo is highly recommended nowaday. Also, FBNeo is supposed to provide the best experience with cps1/cps2 in terms of accuracy and input lag.

@BuZz You were not far from the truth, for some reason I had it in mind that fbalpha was also distributed as a standalone emulator, but it's just pifba (and the older lr-fbalpha-2012).

@avih7531 The Wii emulator (dolphin) is only available for the PC builds, it can't run on a Raspberry Pi.

You'll have to offer more info than that - what type/model ? Do you have a link to the model ? Also, did you try my suggestion about unplugging the HDMI cable and see if the main screen switches to the LCD screen ?

Well, the usual troubleshooting steps are

start with the RetroPie image from retropie.org.uk/download. It's a tested and mostly stock Raspbian image and the best baseline system to start experimenting. make sure you have an adequate power supply and you don't get any under-voltage warnings. test if the device is detected by the OS by running a few command line utilities # see what USB devices are connected with lsusb # see what input devices are detected by the OS and what kind (gamepad/keyboard/mouse/etc.) cat /proc/bus/input/devices test if the device inputs are registered in the system by running a few joystick/gamepad testing programs fromt the command line that capture the button/joypad/d-pad presses and show them on the terminal: # 1st joystick jstest /dev/input/js0 # 2nd joystick jstest /dev/input/js1 # another testing utility evtest

@elysse77 said in Do you need a GPU for retropie?:

or will the integrated graphics of the 6600k be sufficient?

Main issue you might encounter is a lack of proper support for the integrated gpu.

@ledow I understand it now, thank you for clarification. That's too bad we won't get a machine (not talking about PC) anytime soon to emulate both N64 and Dreamcast well enough for them to be as playable as on original consoles. I guess for newer titles you would just have to go for new generation consoles such as PS4 or so and play newer versions of each N64 game, if such exists.

But what I hate about all this new console stuff is that you can no longer play as easily as you could do it back in the days. Internet is a must for nearly everything, micropayments everywhere even though you bought a full version of the game. And controllers are already a mess in my opinion since PS2 - nothing like the ones for SNES with just couple keys necessary to play. I get it where they come from but I still feel much more comfortable with my good old RetroPad.

@BJRetro Thanks. I'll look into these when I get time. At the moment I'm going through the N64 library with poor results so far but still there are couple playable games already.

Thanks yes I'd already done that. :-) I also added lr-mupen64plus and made a couple of tweaks in the audio settings there, such as setting latency to 128 rather than 64, and setting the resampler to lowest rather than lower. Seems to take the edge off lag sometimes.

I was having the same problem so I started a segaCD games in verbose mode and noticed that it was looking for the BIOS in the segaCD roms folder instead of the BIOS folder. This was on a new machine I was setting up on Ubuntu 18.04. Not sure what has changed that made it look to ROMS instead of BIOS folder.

@martinbaker2727 Mouse issues in ScummVM were resolved with the release of version 2.0. As you are running an old version of RetroPie which runs on Jessie, for which support is no longer available, I would recommend that you start with the latest 4.4 image.

A virtual keyboard should be available in the latest version of ScummVM. It can be activated by button 7 on your controller, which, I understand, is the Guide button. If the virtual keyboard is not available, then try installing ScummVM from source.

The ScummVM in-game menu is only available with a button press for Lucas Arts titles. For other titles, it can be accessed by pressing CTRL+F5. According to the manual, in Zork The Grand Inquisitor, there are options to save, restore and quit in the Center Bar, accessed by moving your cursor to the top of screen.
